INTRODUCTION TO LEADERSHIP

For all Managers who want to develop their knowledge and understanding of leadership. In this practical course they will learn how to equip themselves and the team with the skills & capabilities to optimise productivity and performance to deliver results.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the different leadership styles
  • Improve their ability to communicate with the team
  • Create and maintain an efficient, effective & motivated team
  • Develop a Personal Action Plan to improve leadership skills

UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE (EQUALITIES, DIVERSITY& RESPECT)

Equalities & diversity is about recognising, accepting & valuing differences rather than being afraid of it. This practical workshop will explore the issues surrounding equality & diversity, the legislation and the benefits of adopting an inclusive culture. For all staff who wish to explore the subject of diversity awareness in a safe training environment.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the legislation covering all the protected characteristics as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
  • Identify the risk of ignoring or seeming to approve inappropriate behaviour and the implications of personal liability
  • Understand the impact that generalisations, stereotypes, bias, inappropriate language in day-to-day operations can have on people
  • Increase their confidence in challenging discriminatory behaviour at work
  • Understand how equality & diversity issues can impact upon their roles as managers and in what ways (e.g. staffing issues, accommodating customers, etc.)

TEAM BUILDING

Team work is not just about possessing the technical knowledge, but also about building relationships and influencing people within the team and others outside the team. The session will focus on characteristics of the team; problem solving and dealing with change. It will encourage team members to share ideas & information about planning to work towards the team’s success. This team event is designed to have a positive effect on the morale, motivation, confidence and effectiveness of the team and its individual members that immediately transfers to the workplace.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Define the differences between Groups & Teams
  • Identify the stages of group development
  • Establish individual team working styles & how this impacts on their approach to others in the team
  • Explain how to develop & maintain trust at work and encourage team working
  • Learn how to solve problems through effective communication & assertiveness
  • Understand the barriers that arise when people are faced with the need to change

PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES

Except for behaviours of a sexual nature or obvious conflict of interest activity, boundary considerations often are not clear-cut matters of right and wrong. Rather, they are dependent upon many factors and require careful thinking through of all the issues, always keeping in mind the best interests of the client/customer.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Develop their confidence of dealing with ‘typical areas’ that can present difficulties.
  • Use a set of questions to examine potential boundary issues.
  • Be able to recognise the ‘warning signs’ that may suggest inappropriate behaviour.
  • Complete a self-assessment tool to think about the professional boundaries that underpin their work.
  • Develop a Personal Action Plan.
